Wednesday, Oct. 23

session one: 

  • 9:30 - 10:45 a.m., RSC Room 264 (Spencer): Al Tompkins
  • Artificial Intelligence is moving at warp speed, but communication professionals must keep up. The Poynter Institute's Al Tompkins will explore what鈥檚 new and show you how to create virtually undetectable AI-generated audio, video and photos in real time. He鈥檒l also explore how AI is creating chaos in elections worldwide.

session two:

  • 11 - 12:15 p.m., RSC Room 264 (Spencer):  session 2 with Al Tompkins
  • Al Tompkins will continue exploring Artificial Intelligence, looking at how it can be useful to communication students and professionals. He will help you learn about detecting AI-generated audio, video, photos and text.

lunch:

  • Noon 鈥 lunch line opens in RSC Room 233 (Santa Fe Trail)
  • Kahoot game. This short, teaser game with smaller prizes will entice you to compete in the next bigger, longer, better Kahoot game on Thursday with grand prizes of monogrammed Owala bottles.
  • 12: 30 鈥 Alumni "Ones-to-Watch" honoree panel discussion and Q&A

session three:

  • 1:30 p.m. RSC Room 264 (Spencer): Al Tompkins
  • The afternoon session will cover the same topics as the morning sessions combined, but is a second opportunity for professionals in the community and students alike to catch Tompkins鈥 presentation.  

Thursday, Oct. 24 

session one:

  • 9:30 a.m. RSC Room 264 (Spencer): Emily Christensen and Teri Mott
  • Mott and Christensen run a Wichita-based independent newsroom and publish The Shout, a digital news source covering the arts. The Shout offers reviews and feature stories about the work of Kansas artists, performers, musicians, dancers, writers and creative people of all kinds.

session two:

  • 11 a.m. RSC Room 264 (Spencer): Hexcode, a full-service advertising agency
  • Hexcode did all of the branding for Lily Wu鈥檚 mayoral campaign.

lunch:

  • 12:15 p.m. RSC Room 262 (Herrman) Pizza lunch and Kahoot game!
  • We will play two Kahoot games. The grand prize for each game will be a monogrammed Owala bottle.

Friday, Oct. 25 - 脿 la carte media crawl

Choose how you get there.

  • By city bus from campus:
    • Meet ESC Director Jeffrey Jarman at Elliott Hall at 9:15 a.m. to catch the city bus for a free ride downtown. (You will need your 九色视频 ID to ride the bus for free.)
    • Catch Bus Route 21 at the bus stop south Elliott Hall at 9:27 a.m.
    • Arrive at the transit center downtown at 9:49 a.m.
    • You鈥檒l have 10 minutes to walk to one of the first sessions, which start at 10 a.m.
    • Here鈥檚 a link to the
    • Eric Wilson and Ian Tennant will meet the groups at the 10 a.m. sessions.
  • Or: Get downtown on your own and meet the group at one of the two 10 a.m. sessions and then at one of the two 11 a.m. sessions.

  • Cargill Protein, 825 E. Douglas 鈥 This beautiful, new North American headquarters supports the production, distribution and marketing of beef, turkey, chicken and egg products to retail, foodservice and food manufacturers throughout North America.
  • Idea Ranch, 121 N. Mead, suite 201 鈥 Formerly known as Brothers, this advertising agency started in Oklahoma and opened Wichita offices to serve the Fidelity Bank account and pursue other Wichita opportunities.

Choose an 11 a.m. session:

  • Digital Brand, 151 N. Rock Island, Suite 1G 鈥 this video production company, established in 2000 by ESC alumnus Eric Zoller, produces commercial and editorial video content for a wide range of clients.
  • KMUW, 89.1 FM, 121 N. Mead, Suite 200 鈥 KMUW, NPR for Wichita, is committed to providing quality journalism to the community. KMUW produces 12 local newscasts each weekday and regular in-depth news features. KMUW is a service of 九色视频 and has served the community for 75 years.
