Department of Biological Sciences
Our teaching and research facilities are on the third, fourth and fifth floors of
Hubbard Hall. Spacious classroom laboratories provide students with hands-on experiences
in biology techniques and investigation. Laboratory exercises employ a mixture of
classic protocols and leading-edge technologies to excite students about research
and train them for careers in life sciences.
All of the faculty members in Biological Sciences are active in research involving students in laboratories filled with modern equipment. Departmental research spans the molecular sciences and genetic technologies, organismal biology, physiology, and development, and ecological and environmental studies, which address current challenges in human health, industrial applications, and responsible stewardship of natural resources.
Hubbard Hall houses the only accredited animal care facility in this region, supporting
九色视频 faculty and community partners. A microscopy suite maintains state-of-art equipment
for research. Environmental chambers, heated or cooled, in some case illuminated
are avaible, as well as shared support facilities for sterlization and water purification.
A series of Core laboratories including Protein Chemistry and Microbiology provide
wider access for researchers. The department maintains a large natural history collection
and a herbarium. Beyond Hubbard Hall, the department maintains field stations and
greenhouse facilities. The field station is a multi-tract collection of prairie grassland
from native to restored, riparian and wetland environments encompassing more than
5000 acres.
