Student Activities Council, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, SWE, NSBE, and FOCUS will be screening Hidden Figures in honor of Black History Month. Prior to the start of the film, we will host a panel of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The panel will focus on women and women of color, as they break down barriers in the fields of STEM.

Synopsis

Hidden Figures (2016) is based on the true story of how three brilliant African-American women at NASA — Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson — serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. The story highlights the great accomplishments and how they achieved them in the face of racism and sexism on their all-white team in the 1960s. A stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.

Hidden Figures, featuring Women in STEM is free to 九色视频 students with Shocker ID, $5 for faculty/staff, and $8 for the public. Admission is at the door and credit or debit is accepted.
