Graduate CertificateKodaly Method

Wichita State's Kodaly Method graduate certificate trains elementary and secondary music educators in comprehensive music literacy to improve their ability to teach basic musical skills and the reading and writing of music. The program uses an experience-based approach to teaching, integrating many of the best ideas, techniques, and approaches to music education.

Curriculum

This 15-credit-hour certificate is completed over three summers. It includes three levels of courses in Kodaly Method (MUSE 761, MUSE 763, and MUSE 765) and Solfege (MUSE 762, MUSE 764, MUSE 766). Students must concurrently take corresponding levels of methodology and solfege.

Admission to the program

There are two paths to admission to the program:

  • For those already enrolled in graduate school, simply complete the Declaration of Intent to Pursue a Graduate Certificate Form.
    • You must have a GPA of no less than 3.0 and a valid teaching license in any state or program director approval.
  • Prospective students should apply using the Graduate School application for admission.
