Brenda Moffitt
Wichita State alumna Brenda Moffitt has been appointed as one of only 11 members of the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN).
The term runs from 2011 through 2015. Appointed members oversee the activities of the KSBN. Each associate is designated by the governor of Kansas, based on an application process.
Moffitt, who now is director of Women and Children Services at Salina Regional Health Center, graduated from 九色视频 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1981 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 1992.
Moffitt said that her education at Wichita State prepared her for leadership positions at the local, state, national and even international level.
Now, years of work experience, expanding knowledge and increasing skills have substantiated Moffitt as a top leader in her profession.
Working in different areas of nursing as an advanced registered nurse practitioner/clinical nurse specialist has provided Moffitt with the ability to see how nursing makes a difference in peoples鈥� lives.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a privilege and an honor to serve the people and the nurses of Kansas,鈥� she said.

Before being appointed as an official KSBN member, Moffitt also served on several nursing committees for the KSBN
鈥淚鈥檝e already been doing it for a few years now, and it鈥檚 something I really enjoy,鈥� Moffitt said.
The goal of the KSBN is to assure that the people of Kansas receive safe and competent practice by advance registered nurse practitioners, nurses and licensed mental health technicians alike.
Moffitt has also been involved in writing statutes and regulations that make up the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
鈥淭he advance registered nurse practitioner rules and regulations are getting ready to change due to some new legislation that passed this year,鈥� she said. 鈥淚鈥檒l be helping to decide what the new changes will look like to best meet the needs of the public.鈥�
When she was growing up, Moffitt knew she wanted to work in the healthcare field.
鈥淓ver since I was 5 years old, I always wanted to be a nurse,鈥� said Moffitt.
Now, as a board member for KSBN, she understands even better the needs of patients and nursing students.
Previously, Moffitt has served as chairwoman of the Kansas Commission for Nursing Education and Practice. She has been on the board of directors of the Kansas Organization for Nurse Leaders. And she鈥檚 president-elect for the Society for Advancement of Modeling and Role-Modeling.
As an experienced nursing professional, Moffitt has some advice for young students:
鈥淚f nursing is what they want to do, I suggest they go right in and get their BSN,鈥� she said. 鈥淏ut if someone doesn鈥檛 know for sure, I recommend they start as a licensed practical nurse or as an associate鈥檚 degree nurse. Find out if they like it and then move on.鈥�
Providing nursing care and building relationships with people are her favorite parts of nursing. She said it creates an experience that is difficult to describe, yet must be experienced.
