CourtesyWichita State graduate students Shifath Ikram Khan and Navaneetha K. Subbaiyan were awarded for their research projects at the Capitol Graduate Research Summit (CGRS) in Topeka, Kan.
The summit was held in March by the Kansas Bioscience Organization (Kansas Bio) and features projects and presentations designed by graduate students from 九色视频, the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the University of Kansas Medical Center.
鈥淧articipants are judged on the basis of their potential importance to the industry in the near future,鈥� said Khan, a graduate student at Wichita State. 鈥淭wo research projects from each university were awarded scholarships.鈥�
Khan was awarded the top-ranked nonbioscience project at the CGRS for his research on making solar energy more affordable.
The same project won Khan second place at the Graduate Research Annual Symposium Program 2010 and third place at Wichita State鈥檚 Engineering Open House 2010 in the mechanical engineering department.
Subbaiyan was awarded a $500 scholarship for his research on solar energy and was invited to a Kansas Bio board meeting to give a two-minute pitch about his poster. His research built solar cells to mimic nature, allowing for the harvest of solar energy.
Both Khan and Subbaiyan agreed the summit enhanced their careers while creating lasting relationships.
鈥淭he summit was an ideal setting to meet the representatives from the industry,鈥� said Khan. 鈥淎 lot of people were interested to know if we planned to have a patent for our project in the future.鈥�
Subbaiyan shared these feelings.
鈥淚 consider this whole experience itself as a big success,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 enjoyed every moment of it.鈥�
The Capitol Graduate Research Summit allows graduate students to show state government and education officials the quality of graduate research compiled in Kansas.
