Services for James William Kelley

Jim Kelley, who retired in 2007 as associate vice president of student affairs at Wichita State, passed away in Seattle on June 1, after a long and valiant struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was 76. Kelley leaves behind his wife, Ruth Laurene Christensen Kelley; a son, David William Kelley; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Joy Kelley; and a granddaughter, Lucia Beatrice Kelley, all of Seattle; and a brother, Douglas Dean Kelley of Denver, Colorado.

In fall 1982, He was named dean of University College at 九色视频. He remained at 九色视频 for 25 years, serving in several positions, during which time he published numerous articles in the area of student success.

In 2010, Kelley began showing signs of Lewy Body Dementia. The symptoms slowly increased until he was unable to stand, speak or grasp anything with his hands. However, he never lost his ability to show agape love to everyone who visited. As Jim once said, "I believe I was put on this earth to help human beings accomplish what they want to accomplish."

A memorial service for Kelley was held in Seattle this month, and there will be another memorial service for him at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at University Congregational Church, 9209 E. 29th St. in Wichita.
